Impact and Learning Series of the Ajira Poa Learning Programme in Kenya
In september 2024, the Ajira Poa Project launched a learning series to showcase the impact of the programme.
The Ajira Poa Project – which translates to ‘cool jobs’ in Swahili, is a collaborative effort led by DCA Kenya in partnership with QUERCUS Group, ADS-North Rift, Growth Africa, and the College of Career Guidance and Development (CCGD), aiming to revolutionise job creation and skills development for youth in Kenya.
Focused on Nakuru, Nyandarua, and West Pokot counties, this initiative combines job creation with skill development, supported by guidance from both public and private sector partners.
DCA Kenya: Amplifying Impact Through Beneficiary Voices
DanChurchAid (DCA) Kenya’s approach to measuring programme impact is not only a benchmark for tracking and reporting results but also a powerful example of how giving a voice to participants can enhance understanding of the real-world changes their initiatives bring about. By focusing on the stories and experiences of young people directly affected by their Ajira Poa project, DCA Kenya highlights the tangible transformations taking place.
This human-centred method does more than merely present data—it brings the outcomes to life, making them relatable and compelling. Participants are not reduced to figures; instead, their voices take centre stage, reflecting the personal journeys that underline DCA’s impact. By sharing these stories, the outcomes of their work become a vivid demonstration of progress, offering a richer narrative than numbers alone can convey.
What makes DCA Kenya’s efforts particularly noteworthy is the way they combine thoughtful impact measurement with a commitment to empowering those they support. This approach adds depth and authenticity to the results, strengthening the overall narrative of change and fostering greater understanding and engagement.
DCA Kenya is setting a high standard for how organisations can approach impact measurement and communication. By blending rigorous evaluation with an emphasis on beneficiary voices, they are showing that lasting, meaningful change is about more than just outputs—it is about how that change is experienced and shared. Their work reminds us that behind every statistic lies a personal story that deserves to be told.
As organisations seek to improve how they communicate their impact, DCA Kenya’s strategy offers an inspiring example of how to do so effectively and meaningfully. By placing the voices of their beneficiaries at the heart of their work, they are driving a more authentic and human narrative of change.
