A Shared Space for Organisations and Networks

Collaboration across organisations and networks can be challenging, especially when different systems, structures, and ways of working come into play. Yet, creating a shared space for learning, innovation, and exchange can bridge these differences, unlocking new opportunities for collective impact.

Fabo is fostering inclusive and flexible learning environments where organisations can connect, co-create, and grow together—regardless of the platforms or systems they use. By bringing diverse actors into a common space, organisations can share knowledge, build capacity, and drive meaningful change.

One such example is the ACT Alliance, a global network of faith-based organisations that leveraged this collaborative approach to strengthen their learning culture. Their story highlights how a shared space can enable deeper engagement, knowledge-sharing, and a stronger sense of community.

ACT Alliance: A Case of Collaborative Learning in Action

ACT Alliance is a global coalition of over 140 churches and faith-based organisations working together to promote justice, humanitarian response, and sustainable development. With members operating in more than 120 countries, ACT Alliance is committed to addressing urgent global challenges, including climate justice, gender equality, safeguarding, and disaster response. The alliance fosters collaboration and shared learning among its members to enhance their collective impact.

Empowering ACT Alliance’s Communities of Practice through the Fabo Platform

As part of its commitment to fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing, many ACT Alliance members actively use the Fabo Platform for their learning resources, events and internal collaboration. The platform serves as a key resource for the organisations, providing a flexible and accessible space where they can exchange knowledge, share materials, and engage in meaningful discussions. One of the most significant ways ACT Alliance members utilise the Fabo Platform is through Communities of Practice (CoPs).

ACT Communities of Practice on Fabo

The Fabo Platform hosts several ACT Alliance Communities of Practice (CoPs), each dedicated to specific thematic areas critical to the alliance’s mission. These CoPs provide a structured yet adaptable environment for members to connect, share expertise, and develop collective strategies. Among the most active CoPs on the platform are:

  • Safeguarding – A space dedicated to enhancing safeguarding policies and practices across member organisations, ensuring the protection of vulnerable individuals and communities.

  • Religion and Development – Facilitating discussions on the intersection of faith and sustainable development, exploring how religious actors can contribute to global progress.

  • Gender and Diversity – Providing a forum for members to collaborate on initiatives that promote gender equality and inclusivity across different contexts.

  • Learning – A hub for knowledge-sharing on capacity building, training methodologies, and best practices in organisational learning.

  • Climate Justice – A platform where members advocate for climate action, exchange strategies, and develop faith-driven responses to the climate crisis.

These CoPs function as dynamic spaces where ACT Alliance members can engage with peers from other organisations, access critical resources, and collectively work towards shared goals. The ability to exchange information and collaborate across borders enhances the overall effectiveness of ACT Alliance’s initiatives.

Secure and Inclusive Collaboration Across Organisations

A key advantage of the Fabo Platform is that it enables organisations that do not share the same IT system to still access and share documents securely. Unlike open drive systems that lack proper security controls, Fabo ensures that data remains protected while fostering collaboration. This feature is particularly valuable for organisations that wish to work together but are not part of the same institution.

Through the Communities of Practice, Chairs and responsible members can decide who to invite and grant access to the group. They can also assign editor rights to multiple members, allowing for joint management of content and discussions. This ensures a more democratic and inclusive approach to collaboration, helping organisations overcome common barriers to teamwork and knowledge-sharing.

A Flexible and Scalable Solution

The Fabo Platform’s adaptability allows ACT Alliance members to create and manage as many groups, CoPs, and specialised sites as needed to support their mission. Whether organisations require a dedicated space for project collaboration, thematic discussions, or training initiatives, Fabo provides a user-friendly and customisable environment that meets their evolving needs. By enabling seamless and secure collaboration, Fabo strengthens the collective capacity of ACT Alliance members, ensuring they can drive meaningful change in their respective areas of work.

Through Fabo, ACT Alliance members continue to build a strong, interconnected network that leverages shared knowledge and resources to advance global justice, development, and humanitarian action.
