The Local changemakers course available in Hausa

The FORB Learning Platform has launched a Hausa translation of the Local Changemakers Course, expanding access to a practical and community-focused resource for promoting freedom of religion or belief (FoRB).

Designed for facilitators, trainers, community leaders, civil society organisations, and faith communities, the Local Changemakers Course provides a complete set of materials for running workshops that help participants learn about, value, and promote freedom of religion or belief for all.

A complete workshop curriculum for community learning

The Local Changemakers Course is a series of nine face-to-face workshops, designed to enable groups of adults and young people to learn about, value, and promote freedom of religion or belief in their communities.

A complete curriculum of course materials is available and free for any person or organisation to download, adapt, and use in ways that best fit their local context. The materials provide facilitators with everything they need to organise and deliver engaging workshops and trainings that encourage dialogue, reflection, and action.

The course is designed for groups of 12–24 participants, but can easily be adapted for larger or smaller groups.

Designed for grassroots changemakers

The Local Changemakers Course is intended for people at the grassroots level, people who are concerned about challenges related to freedom of religion or belief in their communities and societies and who want to find ways to make a positive difference.

Importantly, the course requires no previous knowledge or experience of freedom of religion or belief, human rights, or advocacy. Participants do not even need to agree with human rights concepts at the outset. What matters is an open mind, an interest in helping to build communities characterised by peaceful coexistence and equality, and a willingness to engage in a process of shared learning and reflection.

The participatory design makes the course accessible to people with limited literacy, while also providing a valuable framework for engagement with university-educated groups, community leaders, and local religious leaderships.

A useful complement to digital FoRB courses on Fabo

For Fabo members and partners interested in strengthening their work on freedom of religion or belief, the Local Changemakers Course complements the digital FoRB learning opportunities already available on the platform through courses developed by the Norwegian Network for Freedom of Religion or Belief (NORFORB).

While the online courses provide foundational knowledge and insights into freedom of religion or belief, the Local Changemakers Course offers practical tools and methodologies for facilitators who want to bring these conversations into communities through workshops, dialogue processes, and collective learning.

Together, these resources support both individual learning and community-based action.
